South Orkney Islands penguin colony
Global warming is bad news for adelie penguins
There were no mud to be seen on my first visit to South Orkney in 2003, but here in 2008 something had changed. Most penguin chicks were soaked in mud, and their parents did not look much better.
Adelie penguin's northern breeding range is at the South Orkney Islands. The global warming may be responsible for the Adelie penguins to abandon the islands as a breeding place.
If you ever come this way then I will hope that the penguins are still present. It is a magnificent place and the Adelie penguin rookery is well worth a visit.
